Brief:
A refresh and rebuild of IRMO's brand and website, one of the UK's largest Indoamerican organisations.

The Indoamerican Refugee & Migrant Organisation or IRMO for short, are a charity based near Brixton in London. They have served the Latin American community in the UK for over 40 years, offering advice, local support and learning opportunities to its users.

We were approached by the team at IRMO to refresh their existing brand, and build a new, feature-packed website with improved accessibility and editability.

The brief for the brand refresh was simple; to brighten and simplify their current logo, and introduce a vibrant colour palette for use across their digital presence. We preserved their primary typeface while tidying up some of the elements, and introduced a coloured shape system that represented the four key areas of their service offering; Advice, Children & Young People, Education & Employment, and Wellbeing.

While the brand refresh was in progress, we began work on the sitemap and wireframes for the website. Many stakeholders needed input, so we created a clickable prototype in Figma allowing the clients to present concepts internally and offer group feedback. The site design was laid down in the same manner and introduced some custom iconography and site illustration.

It was of paramount importance that the site had multi-lingual capabilities and IRMO’s team members wanted an easy way to manually add and edit Spanish and Portuguese translations to ensure progressive terminologies were used. This avoided the use of auto-translate which can contain both errors and outdated language.

The site also required intuitive event management tools to help the team efficiently manage a busy events calendar. The team offer both one-off events, and regular drop-in sessions which require weekly or daily recurrences. We opted for an events management plugin which allowed for multiple event types, cutting down admin and maintenance time for the team.

IRMO are a busy bunch, and their presence in the community needs to be constant. It was a necessity that the site was both adaptable and easy to maintain for the team. The site was built with the Elementor plugin for WordPress, and provided the team with pre-built components. This allowed their team to edit content and build entirely new pages independently, reducing feedback loops and enabling quick ad-hoc changes. This means the team at IRMO can focus on servicing their community to the fullest.
